Rescue Me ID: 15-11-27-00495Bluey (male)
Blue is a gorgeous bully mix only 8 months and close to 70 pounds- He is wide and low to the ground- He is a sweet puppy who will need a strong leader as he has become a bit dominant and tries to get away with things as he has gotten older- He pulls on the leash, but is very well behaved in the home- even tolerates cats- The most important thing for Blue is to get him some puppy training and be a strong leader with him- pit/bully breed experience is a must -he will be an excellent companion just needs to learn the rules and boundaries- A big mush!!! |Rescue Me ID: 15-10-24-00096Lena (female)|
Hi! My name is Lena. I am a calm, loving girl and I am just looking for my furever home! My foster mom says I would fit in well in just about any home. She also says I have good manners (I am not sure what that means, though!) I am about 3 years old, weigh about 38 pounds, and I love dogs, and seem to like cats and kids. I am spayed, microchipped, been treated for heartworms, dewormed, current with all vaccines and on flea and heartworm prevention. I am all ready to be adopted :) My adoption fee is $250, and covers all of my vetting, and includes transport if my new family lives in the northeast USA. I am currently being fostered in South Carolina, but I can catch a ride up north to meet my new family. Please email my rescue at firstname.lastname@example.org to get an adoption application! Thanks for checking me out! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-10-17-00206Lola (female)
Lola was brought to us from Animal Control where her time was up. The ACO caring for her there saw what a very nice dog she was and wanted to give her a chance at a better life, so we took her. Now this very sweet and happy girl (who smiles!) is up for adoption and waiting for her forever home! Lola has a very laid back personality and calm, gentle demeanor. She enjoys a game of fetch, but does not require an excessive amount of exercise. She is more of the couch potato type. She appears to be an English Bulldog and pit bull terrier mix about 3 years old. Lola seems to be good with other dogs and children, but needs further cat testing. Lola will be spayed before she leaves the shelter. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-03-01-00241Barney (male)
The first thing everyone notices about Barney is how goofy and adorable he is. He has the best qualities of a Beagle and a Bulldog, creating one perfect little nugget! There is nothing quite as uplifting as being created by this energetic boy, a toy in his mouth and a tail wagging so hard it makes his whole body wiggle. Unfortunately, Barney wasn't always the handsome and obedient dog he is today. Barney was purchased from a pet store as an expensive 'hybrid' Beabull dog to a family with several young toddlers. His family was promised a small dog that would be calm and easy to own. What they got instead was a 50 lbs. highly energetic and intelligent dog that didn't want to be told what to do. Because he was so stubborn, his family let him get away with everything, instead of training him, and his behavioral problems became worse and worse until his family had to surrender him to our shelter at 10 months old. Almost a year later, Barney is unrecognizable from that puppy that was surrendered to our shelter. He is incredibly well mannered in the right hands. He has learned basic and advanced obedience training in addition to learning agility training and how to play appropriately with other dogs. He has come so far through our training program that we want to be sure that whoever adopts him will continue to help be the best dog he can be! Barney would do best in a home as an only pet to a local adult home that is willing to continue his training program. If you are this home, please call (914)-273-1674 or go online www.adopt-a-dog.org. If you would like to fill out our adoption application, please go to https://goo.gl/oUcqxk (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-11-03-00593Joey (male)
Joey was born about January 4, 2014 and will probably top out in the 50 lb. range. This guy is major cuteness!! He is good in the car, just wonderful with other dogs and does fine with cats. Joey is one major cuddler and willingly shows you his tummy. This amazing little boy came to us because he was showing some fearful behavior and the humans admitted they didn't know how to handle it. Well, he came to the right place because we deal with fear issues all the time and what you don't ever want to do is coddle (talk sweetly, give treats, or say good boy, it's ok) the negative behavior because the dog will think you enjoy what he is doing in the moment so to please you they will increase the exact behavior that you don't want. In a matter of a week little, chunky, Joey has make tremendous strides to normalcy and he is ready for a foster home that will continue to work with him. Now we just need a forever home to come alone that will pick up where we left off. At times when he is fearful he will growl and that is just not to be tolerated and surely not coddled. With the strides he has made in such a short amount of time we are guessing he could become a Canine Good Citizen dog before long. I'm saying no little kids at time just to the commotion and noise and feel he would be more comfortable in a calmer environment and he'd LOVE another dog!!! (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Bulldog in New York
Bulldogs can make good pets in New York if they match your IifestyIe. The English Bulldog is a stocky breed with an intimidating appearance, but is one of the gentlest types of dogs. However, the Bulldog does have excellent guarding instincts. Bulldogs love human attention. Some bulldogs have a dominant streak and need a master who is firm and exudes leadership. Bulldogs do well with children and make great family pets. Bulldogs can live in an apartment but need a daily walk. Energy levels of Bulldogs vary widely but the breed is relatively inactive indoors. Bulldogs are prone to health problems and tend to slobber profusely.
