Friendly, energetic pup
Rescue Me ID: 16-10-14-00091Max (male)
Max is a beagle bulldog mix that's 3 years old and is special needs. He will need to be on meds for the rest of his life in order to walk. He would actually benefit from a wheelchair. He has herniated discs in his back and as per the vet it can be corrected with surgery but isn't a guarantee it won't happen again. He is super sweet and loves everyone he meets. Because he is special needs I would recommend teen age children only. He is doing great and is currently being fostered with other pups all ages. He is also being fostered with children that he absolutely adores. Max is an amazing pup that just needs a special someone that is able to tend to his needs. If you are that special someone you can contact me I will send you an application as Max is through a rescue. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-09-08-00304Knuckles (male)
Was adopted from Dog House Adoptions back in July 2014. I recently gave birth to our first child. Throughout the time we have had him, he has shown problems with aggression. We were told by DHA that he did not like younger children and other animals. We did not expect at the time to even make the decision of having children but things happen. Below you will find a quick bio of anything and everything I can think of within the years I have had him. He is a 9 year old Olde English Bulldog. Birthday: 7/19/2007 He is UTD with all of his shots and I just renewed his microchip through Home Again. He sees a vet regularly at Banfield in the Niskayuna Petsmart (which they are in the process of looking for a regular vet so he has been seen by whatever vet was covering at the time.). He was treated for an ear infection currently due to his food allergies (which he needs to be given special food: Simply Nourish sweet potato/salmon dog food and fed 2x a day- morning and night) and possibly environmental allergies. His last visit (Sunday, July 24, 2016) he was given Osurnia in both ears which was given in 2 dosages. We also bring him to the groomers when needed and he also has special shampoo (Peroxiderm) due to his skin infection from food/environmental allergies. He is scheduled for his next preventive care appointment on October 2, 2016 which he will be given his next round of updated shots (roundworm, rabies, leptospirosis, lyme, hookworms, and bordetella). His DAPP is not due until 11/12/2016. He is also registered in Amsterdam, NY which was just renewed. His weight is a little over (81.10 lbs). I have all of his paperwork that was given to me from the adoption agency. He has aggression issues and is a pretty nervous dog especially when coming into new environments/surroundings. He is pretty overprotective of me and has lunged/bit others (boyfriend, brother and including the vet) when getting too close or making a motion he feels would be threatening. We have noticed he does NOT like feet (maybe from his past) and will growl/bite. He also does not like the car and will get in when asked, but does not move and tends to get really nervous when in motion. He has a thing for trucks/noisy, larger vehicles and will lunge/bark and try to go after them. Hates other animals. Shows major aggression towards them. Was told through the adoption agency that he does not like younger children and have kept him away from them just by going by this information. We do not want to be held responsible if he were to bite someone. He doesn't bark much, only when hearing a knock at the door or something like a knock at the door. Pretty much likes to sleep all day and prefers to do so in his cage (with the door open. We NEVER lock him in the cage and he has free reign of the house. He chooses to sleep there. That is where he is most comfortable.). He knows a few common tricks: give each paw, sit, lay down, back up. When giving him treats, ONLY dried sweet potato being the only ingredient. Loves being pet. Plays tug of war and fetch. Lets you know when he has to go out. Definitely house broken. Likes to eat grass. Likes walks. My heart breaks as I type all of this information because we have grown so close to this dog. He has filled a void in our lives for the last two + years and just wish he would 'snap out of it' so we wouldn't have to make this decision. It makes me so nervous to even think about possibly finding another owner for him knowing he does have aggression issues. How will that person react if he was to be aggressive? All I know is that he wants to be loved and can give it unconditionally. I just feel so bad thinking that I am punishing him for 'loving me too much' and he is just trying to protect me, but it is NOT just about me. I have a boyfriend that was in my life before him and now a new baby. I cant think abut myself and just seclude myself from this life I had built before he came along. I just hope that you, or someone can help us and Knuckles in finding the right home/owner for him. I WILL NOT just let him go to anyone and can hopefully trust that someone can find him the right match. Him being an older dog with possibly not many years to go hurts even more because of the fact that we thought that our home would be his FINAL home where he felt comfortable and didn't have to sit in another kennel/shelter. Please get back to me and let me know if you can help us. Having a new baby and his aggression does not go hand in hand. We have given him so many chances but seeing how he reacts, I really cannot take the chance of him being around my new son. I have played videos of a baby crying/screaming and even when my son starts to cry/squeal his reaction clearly shows signs of stress/curiosity. You can email me: email@example.com or even call me at 518-776-0606. Thank you and please help my family find him a home. We are also on limited time with us moving into a bigger place that does not accept pets within a few weeks. (Less)

Love Bulldogs, but want a'real' dog? Pico is your girl! This 50lb so called 'mini' Bulldog is super active and playful. She came from a small apartment originally, never got enough exercise. She is ok with dogs that match her activity level, and kids age 12 and up, as her jumping up is a bit much for small kids.A fenced yard is a must for Pico. She could use some basic training, but is an experienced cuddler. Pico would like a calm household where her need for attention is met. Long Island location. Please make sure you have an application on file within the last 6 months and email Laurette@longislandbulldogrescue.org with 'Pico' in the subject line. (Less)

Animal ID: 30110629Drama (male)
Drama used to live with a Shih Tzu!!! Drama came to us after their owner was evicted and left them in the house alone. When we arrived, there was urine and feces all over the house, and we scooped them up immediately, and brought them to the shelter. Their owner, when they heard they were required to be spayed and neutered prior to leaving the shelter, was very upset, and ended up not coming in to reclaim them. Sadly, this is not a unique situation. Of course, Drama's Shih Tzu sister was adopted right away, but Drama hasn't caught anyone's eye yet. This 3 year old, adorable boy is friendly with people, and is being recommended for a home with kids 13 and up. Drama loves to give hugs, so if you are someone who enjoys receiving hugs from adorable dogs, Drama is for you! Drama is social and friendly with dogs, but is not a friend of the felines. Zoey is a 4 year old female American bulldog/Pit Bull mix who came to the shelter as a stray. Zoey gets along with other dogs but it will depend on the other dog. She has not been tested with cats. Zoey is a strong, larger girl who would do best in a home with older kids. But don't let her size fool you, everyone agrees she is such a big MUSH!!!! Come meet this beauty for yourself and get to know her.

Rescue Me ID: 16-03-20-00082Betty (female)
Betty is approx 2.5yrs old, over bred over-crated mama dog. Adopted out & returned for being too fearful. She was petrified leaving the kennel at the shelter. She's been here 3 mon and has become a dog finally. Still cautious meeting new people, loves other dogs. Best home will have another confident playful dog, older children, someone with patience that understands she needs to warm up & was never given the chance to be a pet. Walks great on a leash as long as she's in the lead, crate trained, very treat motivated. Will steal toys/treats so no sharing out. Curious about the cats, will give chase if they run but doesn't seem to know what they are. Please contact for a meet & greet! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-03-01-00241Barney (male)
Meet Barney! The first thing everyone notices about Barney is how goofy and adorable he is. He has the best qualities of a Beagle and a Bulldog, creating one perfect little nugget! There is nothing quite as uplifting as being created by this energetic boy, a toy in his mouth and a tail wagging so hard it makes his whole body wiggle. Unfortunately, Barney wasn't always the handsome and obedient dog he is today. Barney was purchased from a pet store as an expensive 'hybrid' Beabull dog to a family with several young toddlers. His family was promised a small dog that would be calm and easy to own. What they got instead was a 50 lbs. highly energetic and intelligent dog that didn't want to be told what to do. Because he was so stubborn, his family let him get away with everything, instead of training him, and his behavioral problems became worse and worse until his family had to surrender him to our shelter at 10 months old. Almost 2 years later, Barney is unrecognizable from that puppy that was surrendered to our shelter. He is incredibly well mannered in the right hands. He has learned basic and advanced obedience training in addition to learning agility training and how to play appropriately with other dogs. He has come so far through our training program that we want to be sure that whoever adopts him will continue to help be the best dog he can be! Barney would do best in a home as an only pet to a local adult home that is willing to continue his training program. |PIease Read Before Adopting a Bulldog in New York|
Bulldogs can make good pets in New York if they match your IifestyIe. The English Bulldog is a stocky breed with an intimidating appearance, but is one of the gentlest types of dogs. However, the Bulldog does have excellent guarding instincts. Bulldogs love human attention. Some bulldogs have a dominant streak and need a master who is firm and exudes leadership. Bulldogs do well with children and make great family pets. Bulldogs can live in an apartment but need a daily walk. Energy levels of Bulldogs vary widely but the breed is relatively inactive indoors. Bulldogs are prone to health problems and tend to slobber profusely.
