SWEET MELLOW WALLY!!! Wally is a 6 year old male Bully breed ( short and stocky) almost dwarf- like. He is only 10 inches off the ground but a good 48/50 pounds-absolutely adorable- He was rescued from a CT shelter several weeks back and was in bad shape, but has really come around physically and emotionally- Wally has two issues that need to be considered, the first being a leg disability - his front paw inverts as he walks which hinders his stair climbing and running-We believe it is a congenital issue from poor breeding- He has learned to live with the disability and it doesn't affect him in any way other than getting tired- We ... (Read More)consulted with several Veterinarians to seek options for Wally, and the general consensus was, leave the leg alone and allow him to live out his life with out the pain and long, long rehab involved with reconstructive/fixator surgery- Wally's second issue is that he exhibits PICA like behavior- He does not eat 'everything' his is surroundings, but soft cloth items are always game !! In the past he has eaten socks and towels and soft fleece toys, all of which we had him vomit up and they safely cleared his system. He needs to be watched carefully or in crate or gated clear area if you are not home. IT IS IMPERATIVE that a new owner keep the floors clean and clear of any such items- He will find them:) Now that that's out of the way, let's focus on Wally's good points: Aside from being one of the cutest dogs on the planet, he is very friendly and silly-and goofy and makes everybody smile- Do not expect to go out with him and not have a crowd around you- HE IS THAT CUTE!!! He is very mellow- a quick walk or a short romp in the yard with another dog is all the exercise he requires- He is totally house broken and crate trained - Dog friendly- we'd love him with another low energy dog- The best home would have older teen children - or an adult only home -he doesn't like a lot of commotion - we are looking for an owner who will create proper boundaries for Wally- bully breed / pit experience is recommended If you think you can provide a loving home for Wally and are close to Westchester or Fairfield CO* - please apply at catassistanceny.org *we are not considering adopters out of the Tri State (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-07-31-00081Luna (female)

Bulldog Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Luna is an incredible dog who has been through a lot in her short life. After a life of unknown abuse/neglect, she ended up at the Yonkers Animal Shelter, where she was terrified. After a short stay there, she was adopted by a wonderful couple who gave her love, structure and a safe space to decompress. After many months of working with Luna, her adoptive family have decided to find her a new family that would be better suited for her, possibly with a single person or two people who can be equally involved in her daily care. Because Luna has been through a lot, it takes her a few moments to bond to a new person. Treats and a calm and kind ... (Read More)energy definitely help! She has gone through extensive training, and her new adopters will be given free handling lessons for life so they can learn all of her training and the best way to use it in everyday situations. Luna is an adorable little snorty girl who just wants love and consistency in her life. When she bonds to someone it is for life, and she will be their loyal friend, confidant and defender without question. If you are interested in meeting Luna and seeing if you would be a good fit for her, please fill out an adoption application online at www.waywardranch.org and we will contact you to set up a meet and greet. While waiting to find a new home, her current owners will continue to provide her with a temporary home and plenty of love so meet and greets must be scheduled in advance. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-03-01-00241Barney (male)

Bulldog Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet Barney! The first thing everyone notices about Barney is how goofy and adorable he is. He has the best qualities of a Beagle and a Bulldog, creating one perfect little nugget! There is nothing quite as uplifting as being created by this energetic boy, a toy in his mouth and a tail wagging so hard it makes his whole body wiggle. Unfortunately, Barney wasn't always the handsome and obedient dog he is today. Barney was purchased from a pet store as an expensive 'hybrid' Beabull dog to a family with several young toddlers. His family was promised a small dog that would be calm and easy to own. What they got instead was a 50 lbs. highly ... (Read More)energetic and intelligent dog that didn't want to be told what to do. Because he was so stubborn, his family let him get away with everything, instead of training him, and his behavioral problems became worse and worse until his family had to surrender him to our shelter at 10 months old. Almost 2 years later, Barney is unrecognizable from that puppy that was surrendered to our shelter. He is incredibly well mannered in the right hands. He has learned basic and advanced obedience training in addition to learning agility training and how to play appropriately with other dogs. He has come so far through our training program that we want to be sure that whoever adopts him will continue to help be the best dog he can be! Barney would do best in a home as an only pet to a local adult home that is willing to continue his training program.
