Rescue Me ID: 15-03-22-00535Bruce (male)

Bulldog    Age: Puppy

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

I'm Having Fun While I Can! Bruce was born about July 12, 2013 and weighs about 50 lbs. He is with us because a young woman owned him, had little time for him and her Mother asked if he could come here to find a new home. Upon his first puppy visit to a vet a heart murmur was detected and the owners went to Dr. Tamke, an internal medicine specialist for an echocardiogram where it was discovered that he has a very bad heart murmur along with brachycephalic airway syndrome. So, they paid an enormous amount of money to a breeder for a very sick dog. They were advised to neuter him right away before it became worse, but they did not and, ... (Read More)fortunately, he did make it through neuter surgery at Camp Road Veterinary Hospital. We could not let him go to a new home, or be here, without being neutered. If we had not been advised of his condition we would not have known, he has shown no signs of difficulties. He runs, plays, and has a good time in life. However, his outlook is dim as he was expected to live a few years and then suffer heart failure at some point. Poor Bruce also had a cherry eye which has been repaired, he had a very irresponsible person breeding his parents for the almighty dollar. So, this young, adorable, dog is looking for a home for a little while and then you will have to make the painful decision to let him go unless he goes very quickly. Bruce is house trained, good on leash, and does well in a car. He has been wonderful with everyone here, but is just to strong and tough to be around little kids. He has shown some dog dominance so, perhaps, a home where he is the only pet will be best. This could get better now that he is neutered and the testosterone leaves his body. Bruce is very affectionate, loves to be on your lap and nearby, he's really, really, cute! The breeder did that right. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-03-01-00241Barney (male)

Bulldog Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Cats, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

The first thing everyone notices about Barney is how goofy and adorable he is. He has the best qualities of a Beagle and a Bulldog, creating one perfect little nugget! There is nothing quite as uplifting as being created by this energetic boy, a toy in his mouth and a tail wagging so hard it makes his whole body wiggle. Unfortunately, Barney wasn't always the handsome and obedient dog he is today. Barney was purchased from a pet store as an expensive 'hybrid' Beabull dog to a family with several young toddlers. His family was promised a small dog that would be calm and easy to own. What they got instead was a 50 lbs. highly energetic and ... (Read More)intelligent dog that didn't want to be told what to do. Because he was so stubborn, his family let him get away with everything, instead of training him, and his behavioral problems became worse and worse until his family had to surrender him to our shelter at 10 months old. Almost a year later, Barney is unrecognizable from that puppy that was surrendered to our shelter. He is incredibly well mannered in the right hands. He has learned basic and advanced obedience training in addition to learning agility training and how to play appropriately with other dogs. He has come so far through our training program that we want to be sure that whoever adopts him will continue to help be the best dog he can be! Barney would do best in a home as an only pet to a local adult home that is willing to continue his training program. Rescue Me ID: 15-01-18-00356Joey (male)

Bulldog Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

C U T E is the Word!!!! Joey was born about January 4, 2014 and will probably top out in the 50 lb. range. This guy is major cuteness!! This amazing little boy came to us because he was showing some fearful behavior and the humans admitted they didn't know how to handle it. Well, he came to the right place because we deal with fear issues all the time and what you don't ever want to do is coddle (talk sweetly, give treats, or say good boy, it's ok) the negative behavior because the dog will think you enjoy what he is doing in the moment so to please you they will increase the exact behavior that you don't want. At times when he is ... (Read More)fearful he will growl and that is just not to be tolerated and surely not coddled. UPDATE FROM FOSTER MOM : Joey has been living with us for about a month and is doing very well. He still is fearful of my husband when he gets home from work and will bark and growl. Once I correct him he seems to remember that my husband is just as fun as I am. Joey is a work in progress but so worth it. He has complete and utter trust me and is an amazing companion who is cuddly, sweet, and very funny. He will be this way with someone else too but it is going to require a considerable amount of work on your part and he may never be perfect but he will become the love of your life. (Less)

Chinga is a sweet tiny little girl who was given up because she didnt like the resident child in the house so she spent alot of time secluded away from the family... Bulldog Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Most Cats

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Joey was born about January 4, 2014 and will probably top out in the 50 lb. range. This guy is major cuteness!! He is good in the car, just wonderful with other dogs and does fine with cats. Joey is one major cuddler and willingly shows you his tummy. This amazing little boy came to us because he was showing some fearful behavior and the humans admitted they didn't know how to handle it. Well, he came to the right place because we deal with fear issues all the time and what you don't ever want to do is coddle (talk sweetly, give treats, or say good boy, it's ok) the negative behavior because the dog will think you enjoy what he is doing ... (Read More)in the moment so to please you they will increase the exact behavior that you don't want. In a matter of a week little, chunky, Joey has make tremendous strides to normalcy and he is ready for a foster home that will continue to work with him. Now we just need a forever home to come alone that will pick up where we left off. At times when he is fearful he will growl and that is just not to be tolerated and surely not coddled. With the strides he has made in such a short amount of time we are guessing he could become a Canine Good Citizen dog before long. I'm saying no little kids at time just to the commotion and noise and feel he would be more comfortable in a calmer environment and he'd LOVE another dog!!! (Less)
