KENZIE IS OUR LONGEST RESIDENT IN THE KENNEL. PLEASE SHARE OUR LITTLE PIGLET! Meet Kenzie. This poor baby girl was living in her own filth in a cold garage since she was a baby. She had her first litter of puppies at just 8 months old and none of them survived. She's only 1-2 years old now, we can't imagine what she's been through in her short life already. She came in with a kind Sauk Village Police Officer, too scared to walk so she had to be carried in. Her face, ears, head, and body covered in sores, her legs were covered in urine staining and scald, she was underweight, and terrified. Her muzzle was red, raw, and irritated, and her ... (Read More)hair was thinned down her back from being covered in fleas. In true Pittie fashion despite everything, she's still a sweetheart. After about 10 minutes of feeding her treats and giving her love, her tail was no longer tucked and she was wagging and giving kisses! She's an itty bitty pittie too! Her tiny little self is ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE. She has been getting spoiled rotten and getting all the medical attention and love she needed, NOW she's looking for a home of her own! So far we know she doesn't care for cats and she has no signs of food aggression. She takes treats so gently. She does best with more laid back dogs, and adores people! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 18-03-09-00476Snow (female)

Bulldog Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Blind

**Owner Surrender Disclaimer: These are blind and visually impaired dogs that are living in homes, but their owners can no longer keep them. These dogs are with their owners, and are not in BDRA foster homes. We do our best to screen these dogs, but make no guarantees regarding the information posted.** 'Please know that as much as we wish we could, we are unable to help with transport.' Name: Snow Age: 3 - 4 years Breed: American Bulldog / Dalmatian Mix Sex: Female (confirmed spayed) Location: Moultrie County, IL (but her owner will help transport to the right home) Vet Info: Snow is confirmed spayed and up to ... (Read More)date on vaccines. All vaccines are next due on July 18, 2018. She is confirmed heartworm negative. Snow weighs about 58 pounds. Snow's owner tells us she has macular degeneration in one eye and a detached retina in the other, and is blind. Other than her vision, Snow's owner writes that Snow is in good health. Owner Info: Snow is a beautiful girl looking for a new home. Her owner writes, 'I adopted Snow from Miami-Dade animal shelter they were going to kill her because she is blind. I flew to Miami to drive her back to Illinois. We did a slow intro to my 4 other dogs at the time. 3 pit and a shih tzu. They accepted her into pack. A month later the shelter I work with had a pocket pit that I became attached to. She was adopted out and was returned because owner said she nipped his side. She was scheduled to be put down so I adopted her. Everything has been going great, until my 2 newest started to fight. It has been escalating and now my large male got involved. Now everything has gone south. I have been working with trainer and suggested using muzzles. I have a problem muzzling a blind dog. My fear is she is not safe. I have been keeping them separated, but it is not fair to any of the dogs. I don't want her to live in fear. She gets along great with my mellow dogs. My other 2 dogs are not tolerant.' Snow is an indoor dog confined to one area of the house. She is housebroken and leash trained. Snow is a smart little girl and knows several commands, including Sit, Kennel, Outside, Treat, and Walk. She is described as 'outgoing', and is good with men, women, and teenagers. A home with small children is not recommended for Snow. Her owner also tells us Snow is good with both male and female dogs who are more on the mellow side (see above). Snow does have resource guarding issues and is fed in her crate. She has not shown aggression to people, but will retaliate if attacked by another dog. Snow's owner gave us more information about Snow and how sweet she is! 'She needs a quiet loving home with people and mellow dogs. She loves to go on walks and cuddle. She sits on couch by me every night. she loves bones and kisses. She loves to ride in the car and stick her nose out of window. she doesn't do well on a lot of stairs. I taught her to go up and down 4. She was a backyard breeder dog, not potty trained when I got her. She has come so far. I want her to be able to be loved all the time and not live in fear or restriction.' 'She has had a tough life, but is exceptionally smart and well adjusted. It is not her fault that I am rehoming her...' Please contact os@blinddogrescue.com. Please note we will ask for a vet reference. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Bulldog in Illinois
Bulldogs can make good pets in Illinois if they match your IifestyIe. The English Bulldog is a stocky breed with an intimidating appearance, but is one of the gentlest types of dogs. However, the Bulldog does have excellent guarding instincts. Bulldogs love human attention. Some bulldogs have a dominant streak and need a master who is firm and exudes leadership. Bulldogs do well with children and make great family pets. Bulldogs can live in an apartment but need a daily walk. Energy levels of Bulldogs vary widely but the breed is relatively inactive indoors. Bulldogs are prone to health problems and tend to slobber profusely.
