Rescue Me ID: 16-05-10-00138Honey (female)

Bulldog Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Sweet, sweet Honey. I am so in love with this girl... Honey is available through Summit Dog Rescue. The typical adoption fee is $395, but Honey has an anonymous sponsor in Arkansas (where she's from) who has donated $100 of that. In terms of temperament, she LOVES people. She would follow me around and snuggle 24/7, if she could. She also loves playing with other dogs, going for walks, and going to work with her person! She can very occasionally bristle (for lack of a better word) at times, but that's common with rescue dogs (as I'm sure you know). Here's her story: Months and months ago, Honey was found as a stray, very emaciated and ... (Read More)she had obviously just had puppies, though they weren't with her. She wandered into a couple's yard, and they kept her there for a few days. One day, she started barking a lot, which was unusual for her, so they went to check on her. It turns out that an elderly gentleman had wandered away from his retirement home on his scooter, into the open area behind their house, and had accidentally overturned his scooter. It was a very hot day, and he had passed out. The couple credited Honey with 'rescuing' him, and decided to do everything they could to help her. She's happy, sweet, and learning new things every day. At her foster home, she's amongst other dogs and does great. We do feed her separately, since she currently guards food with a little rumble of a growl (which isn't uncommon for dogs who've experienced a scarcity of food). Patient training can definitely alleviate that behavior. She LOVES to play with our puppy and also loves to cuddle up with us. She's one of those dogs who will give you a gentle nudge if she wants you to pet her. She's gorgeous, sweet, and playful. She's gone to work with my husband at his office a few times, and just wanders around saying hi to everyone and wagging. She would love a patient home with people who will give her training, tons of attention (rubbing and petting), positive associations, and set-ups for success. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-03-18-00400Maddie (female)

Bulldog Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Male Dogs Only, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Maddie is brokenhearted. She has been adopted twice and returned twice. She tries so hard to do the right thing in her adoptive homes, but things change and Maddie is left out in the cold. At least her foster mom loves her and will always welcome her. So now this well mannered, loving and eager to please girl is hoping, once again, to find her forever home. She is looking for a home where she will be valued and loved FOREVER! Maddie is housetrained, crate trained, loves to play ball and cuddle. She has lovely house manners and can be trusted to be alone in the house. She is not trustworthy around cats, so no cats, please. Also, small ... (Read More)children can make her uneasy, although she has never been snappy or nasty towards them, just avoids them. She has lived with 2 small male dogs and does well, but likes to be the boss. She has also lived with a large male dog (actually 2 at one time) and had a great time. For additional information on Maddie contact her foster mom, Barb Flores at: (970)302-0766. (Less)

Bulldogs can make good pets in Colorado if they match your IifestyIe. The English Bulldog is a stocky breed with an intimidating appearance, but is one of the gentlest types of dogs. However, the Bulldog does have excellent guarding instincts. Bulldogs love human attention. Some bulldogs have a dominant streak and need a master who is firm and exudes leadership. Bulldogs do well with children and make great family pets. Bulldogs can live in an apartment but need a daily walk. Energy levels of Bulldogs vary widely but the breed is relatively inactive indoors. Bulldogs are prone to health problems and tend to slobber profusely.
