Rescue Me ID: 16-05-16-00312Bree (female)

Bulldog Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

I hate to do this, but I need to re-home my baby girl. Bree is a 'miniature' Colorado Bulldog. She'll turn 3 in November. This is the perfect dog. She is house trained and crate trained. Once settled into a new home, there is no need for a crate. But she loves her crate, its her bed and she chooses to stay in there at times just to hang out. She loves, loves, LOVES people and enjoys hanging out. She can be a couch potato if that is how the day is, or she'll hike the next snow capped peak! She's versatile and incredibly athletic. I've always said she'd make the perfect agility dog. During the summer, she becomes a fish. She loves to swim. ... (Read More)She'll swim just to do it. She plays fetch, brings it back every single time, whether it is dry land or in the water. Bree is fine with other dogs, very playful and non-threatening. But my dogs have never found enjoyment in the dog park. Bree loves to be out in the vast space of nature. She's a good dog in that she doesn't need a leash to go hiking. She'll never approach strange dogs or people, she minds her own business and comes when called every single time. Bree needs to go to a home where she is the one and only. She is currently the bottom of the totem pole and she is very miserable. She wants to be center of attention and the first dog to be called for pets. Living with 6 other dogs, she's not getting enough of that. Bree is current on all vaccines, spayed and microchip. I have a ton of pictures of her growing up and if you want to see more of her in action, I can email them to her. There will strict adoption requirements, such as vet reference and home inspection. Adoption fee is firm. This absolutely breaks my heart, but I need to do right by her. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-05-10-00138Honey (female)

Bulldog Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Sweet, sweet Honey. I am so in love with this girl... Honey is available through Summit Dog Rescue. The typical adoption fee is $395, but Honey has an anonymous sponsor in Arkansas (where she's from) who has donated $100 of that. In terms of temperament, she LOVES people. She would follow me around and snuggle 24/7, if she could. She also loves playing with other dogs, going for walks, and going to work with her person! She can very occasionally bristle (for lack of a better word) at times, but that's common with rescue dogs (as I'm sure you know). Here's her story: Months and months ago, Honey was found as a stray, very emaciated and ... (Read More)she had obviously just had puppies, though they weren't with her. She wandered into a couple's yard, and they kept her there for a few days. One day, she started barking a lot, which was unusual for her, so they went to check on her. It turns out that an elderly gentleman had wandered away from his retirement home on his scooter, into the open area behind their house, and had accidentally overturned his scooter. It was a very hot day, and he had passed out. The couple credited Honey with 'rescuing' him, and decided to do everything they could to help her. She's happy, sweet, and learning new things every day. At her foster home, she's amongst other dogs and does great. We do feed her separately, since she currently guards food with a little rumble of a growl (which isn't uncommon for dogs who've experienced a scarcity of food). Patient training can definitely alleviate that behavior. She LOVES to play with our puppy and also loves to cuddle up with us. She's one of those dogs who will give you a gentle nudge if she wants you to pet her. She's gorgeous, sweet, and playful. She's gone to work with my husband at his office a few times, and just wanders around saying hi to everyone and wagging. She would love a patient home with people who will give her training, tons of attention (rubbing and petting), positive associations, and set-ups for success. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Bulldog in Colorado
Bulldogs can make good pets in Colorado if they match your IifestyIe. The English Bulldog is a stocky breed with an intimidating appearance, but is one of the gentlest types of dogs. However, the Bulldog does have excellent guarding instincts. Bulldogs love human attention. Some bulldogs have a dominant streak and need a master who is firm and exudes leadership. Bulldogs do well with children and make great family pets. Bulldogs can live in an apartment but need a daily walk. Energy levels of Bulldogs vary widely but the breed is relatively inactive indoors. Bulldogs are prone to health problems and tend to slobber profusely.
